A fungo bat is a specialized coaching tool used to hit practice balls during fielding drills — not for hitting live pitching. Coaches use fungo bats to hit grounders, fly balls, and infield pop-ups with precision. They're longer and lighter than player bats, with a narrow barrel that allows the coach to control placement ball after ball without wearing out. Any coach running fielding practice — at the youth, high school, or college level — will benefit from a quality fungo.
No — fungo bats are not designed for live hitting. The thin barrel profile is optimized for coaching use (self-tossed or dropped-ball hits) and will crack or splinter quickly if used against pitched balls. The Juiced Coach Fungo is made from Hard Maple — the same species used in our player bats. Hard Maple is important for fungo durability: because the barrel is thin and takes repetitive stress across hundreds of swings per practice, a softer wood will dent, split, or crack far faster. A Hard Maple fungo from Juiced is designed to hold up through full-season, multi-session use without breaking down.
With proper use and care, a Juiced Coach Fungo is built to last one to two full seasons of regular practice. To extend lifespan: always hit with the label facing up or down, never sideways; store at room temperature; and avoid hitting rubber-coated training balls, which are too hard for fungo use. Many coaches get 200–400 practice sessions from a well-maintained Hard Maple fungo.

Most coaches prefer a 35"–36" fungo for infield grounders where control and quick repetition matter, and a 36"–37" fungo for outfield fly balls where a longer bat helps generate loft with less effort. For youth coaches running long practice sessions, a shorter, lighter fungo reduces fatigue — bat speed and control matter more than length at that level.
